Prof. (Dr.) Ajayapuram Jyothish Kumar

A distinguished literary critic, poet, orator, language teacher, and journalist, Prof. (Dr.) Ajayapuram Jyothish Kumar holds several advanced degrees, including an MA, B.Ed., M.Phil., Ph.D., and a P.G. Diploma in Journalism.

Positions Held:
Prof. Jyothish Kumar has demonstrated excellence in multiple roles, including as an announcer for All India Radio, a television commentator, and a presenter. He began his professional career as a clerk at the Ottapalam Sub Court in 1990, later transitioning to academia. In 1997, he became a lecturer at Dhanuvachapuram NSS College. Over the years, he served as Associate Professor and Professor. He was the Head of the Malayalam Department at Mahatma Gandhi College, Thiruvananthapuram, for five years.

He retired on May 31, 2024, after serving as Principal of NSS College Rajakumari, Idukki. Throughout his career, he held several key positions, including membership in both the Central and Kerala Sahitya Academies, and served on the Executive Committee of the Kerala Book Marketing Society. Additionally, he was a member of the SCERT Textbook Committee and served as Chairman of the Malayalam Board of Studies at the University of Kerala. He also chaired the Malayalam Question Board at the University of Calicut. Prof. Jyothish Kumar has been a Ph.D. research guide, dissertation examiner, and an expert member in PSC and UPSC examinations. Thirteen individuals earned their Ph.D. degrees under his guidance. He was a member of the State Television Award Jury in 2004 and the Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award Jury in 2017. He is currently serving as the Vice President of the cultural organization G.Devarajan Sakthigadha

Recognitions and Awards:

• C.B. Kumar Endowment Award from the Kerala Sahitya Akademi (1992)

• Poetry Award from the Kanyakumari Malayalam Samajam (1998)

• Karamana Janardhanan Nair Award for Best Television Program (2001)

• State Government Award for Best Television Criticism (2003)

• All India Radio National Award for Best Radio Program Writing (2006) for the feature Hello, This Is Me
  The following year, he received international recognition for his programs Mrityuvil Njan Marika and Swargathinn Vaakvikal.

• Koroth Lakshmikuttyamma Award (2012) for the book Kovilan Ezhuth Desam Pratinidhanam

• The same year, his book received the International Award from the American Malayali Organization Phokana and the Guptan Nair Award from the P.K. Parameswaran Nair Trust.

• Cultural Excellence Award (Saamskaarika Prathibha Award)  (2023)

• Swathi Ayyappanikkar Award (2017) for contributions to literature

• Dr. N. A. Karim Award for Best College Teacher (2019)

വഹിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള പദവികൾ:

ആകാശവാണി അനൗൺസർ, ടെലിവിഷൻ കമന്റേറ്റർ, അവതാരകൻ എന്നീ നിലകളിൽ മികവു തെളിയിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഒറ്റപ്പാലം സബ് കോടതിയിൽ ക്ലാർക്കായി 1990ൽ ഔദ്യോഗികജീവിതം ആരംഭിച്ചു. 1997-ൽ ധനുവച്ചപുരം എൻ എസ് എസ് കോളേജിൽ ലക്‌ചററായി. അസോസിയേറ്റ് പ്രൊഫസർ തസ്ത‌ികകളിൽ പ്രവർത്തിച്ചു. അഞ്ചു കൊല്ലം തിരുവനന്തപുരം മഹാത്മാഗാന്ധി കോളേജിലെ മലയാളവിഭാഗം അധ്യക്ഷനായിരുന്നു. ഇടുക്കി രാജകുമാരി കോളേജിലെ പ്രിൻസിപ്പാളായിരിക്കേ 2024 മെയ്  31 ന് വിരമിച്ചു. കേന്ദ്ര-കേരള സാഹിത്യ അക്കാദമികളിൽ അംഗമായിരുന്നു. കേരള ബുക്ക് മാർക്കറ്റിംഗ് സൊസൈറ്റിയുടെ നിർവാഹകസമിതി അംഗമായും പ്രവർത്തിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. എസ്.സി.ഇ.ആർ റ്റിയുടെ പാഠപുസ്‌തകക്കമ്മിറ്റിയിൽ അംഗമായിരുന്നു. കേരളസർവ്വകലാശാല മലയാളം ബോർഡ് ഓഫ് സ്റ്റഡീസ് ചെയർമാൻ, കാലിക്കറ്റ് യൂണിവേഴ്‌സിറ്റിയുടെ മലയാളം ക്വസ്‌റ്റ്യൻ ബോർഡ് ചെയർമാൻ. പി.എച്ച്.ഡി റിസർച്ച് ഗൈഡ്, പ്രബന്ധപരിശോധകൻ, പി എസ് സി, യു.പി.എസ്.സി പരീക്ഷകളിൽ വിദഗ്ദ്ധാംഗം.

2004 ൽ സംസ്ഥാന ടെലിവിഷൻ അവാർഡ് ജൂറിയിലും 2017ൽ കേന്ദ്രസാഹിത്യ അക്കാദമി അവാർഡ്  ജൂറിയിലും അംഗമായിരുന്നു.

1992ൽ കേരള സാഹിത്യഅക്കാദമിയുടെ സി.ബി.കുമാർ എൻഡോവ്മെന്റ് അവാർഡ്.

1998ൽ കന്യാകുമാരി മലയാളസമാജത്തിൻ്റെ കവിതാ അവാർഡ്.

2001 ൽ മികച്ച ടെലിവിഷൻ പരിപാടിക്ക് കരമന ജനാർദ്ദനൻ നായർ പുരസ്‌കാരം.

2003 ൽ മികച്ച ടെലിവിഷൻ നിരൂപണത്തിന് സംസ്ഥാന സർക്കാർ അവാർഡ്.

2006 ൽ ഹലോ ഇത് ഞാനാണ് എന്ന ഫീച്ചറിന് മികച്ച റേഡിയോ പരിപാടിയുടെ രചനയ്ക്ക് ആകാശവാണി ദേശീയ അവാർഡ്. മൃത്യുവിൽ ഞാൻ മരിക്കാ, സ്വർഗത്തിൻ്റെ അവകാശികൾ എന്നീ പരിപാടികൾക്ക് തൊട്ടടുത്തവർഷം അന്തർദേശീയ അംഗീകാരം.

2012-ൽ കോവിലൻ എഴുത്ത് ദേശം പ്രതിനിധാനം എന്ന ഗ്രന്ഥത്തിന് കോറോത്ത് ലക്ഷ്‌മിക്കുട്ടിഅമ്മ പുരസ്‌കാരം.

അതേപുസ്‌തകത്തിന് അതേവർഷം തന്നെ അമേരിക്കൻ മലയാളികളുടെ സംഘടനയായ ഫൊക്കാനയുടെ അന്തർദേശീയ പുരസ്‌കാരവും പി.കെ. പരമേശ്വരൻ നായർ ട്രസ്‌റ്റിൻ്റെ ഗുപ്‌തൻ നായർ പുരസ്‌കാരവും ലഭിച്ചു.

2017 ൽ സാഹിത്യത്തിലെ സംഭാവനകളെ മുൻ നിർത്തി സ്വാതി അയ്യപ്പപ്പണിക്കർ പുരസ്‌കാരം.

2019 ൽ ഏറ്റവും മികച്ച കോളേജ് അധ്യാപകനുള്ള ഡോ.എൻ എ. കരീം പുരസ്ക്‌കാരം.

2023 ൽ സാംസ്കാരികപ്രതിഭാ പുരസ്ക്‌കാരം.
